we have learned....

At Boundary Stream we were shown three mustelids (a ferret, a stoat and a weasel) and Mark from DOC showed us a stuffed feral cat with a bellbird in its mouth, and then we went for a long walk. There were 600 traps set around in the bush to catch mustelids, rats and feral cats. JD.
I learned about what has been done to minimise the impact of introduced species on our environment. DOC and the council have been trapping and poisoning these pests in lots of rural areas. DOC does the pest eradication to protect our native species, and the council does it to protect cattle from TB so farmers can export their meat.

We visited Boundary Stream yesterday to find out what happens at this Mainland Island. We found out about the pest control that DOC does there, and we found out why.
