Haiti fundraiser

When we came to school at the beginning of the term we talked about the earthquake that had happened in Haiti, and we thought about the losses the people had suffered. We all found it difficult to imagine what it must be like to try to pick up the pieces of life in the wake of such a disaster... no jobs, no schools, shattered families - the list went on.
Campbell said he would like to do something to help the victims of this earthquake, and after much discussion and lots of good ideas, we decided to hold a fund-raising morning tea for the whole school. We obtained pledges of baking from all our Room 13 parents, and we made posters to put around the school, and sent notes home to all the rest of the school. (We also did a bit of baking in class, with Mrs Vercoe's help). We held the morning tea today, and we were overwhelmed with the support. There was a huge amount of baking! The final tally isn't in yet, but we raised over $430!
Thank-you to everyone who baked and helped, and to the rest of the school who came and bought our lovely baking.
Campbell was busking outside the music room and he raised quite a few dollars too.
Now we are deciding which aid agency we will pass our donation on to, so we are doing a bit of research on this.
Well done everyone!

2010

Term one is almost over and we have been very busy. Year fives went on camp to Aropauanui, with year fives from room 15, and the following week the year sixes went Optimist yachting at Pandora Pond.

This term we have been looking at Porritt Pride, and we have made some posters to remind us how to be Passionate Achievers, Respectful, Interdependent learners, Deep thinkers, and Excellent in all we do.
Here are some of the images of passionate achievers we used in the posters.
