OPTIMIST YACHTING for Year 6

We are still keen to hear from anyone who can help with transport or supervision in the afternoons down at Pandora Pond this week.  Unfortunately we won't be able to take all the year 6s each day, as we had hoped, because we still don't have enough parent helpers or transport. So we will be rostering the students instead. But it is important that they bring their GEAR EVERY DAY, even if they are not on the roster for that day, just in case we are surprised with extra transporters or supervising parents.
GEAR LIST: Sunhat, sunscreen, sweatshirt, togs and towel. Old smeakers (for wearing in the water), an old woollen jersey or polyprop (next to the skin, to keep warm when wet) or a wetsuit if you have one. A bag to put things in.
We will be leaving school at 12 o'clock each day, if you are coming to help.

Art Deco designs

We have been looking at art deco designs and we are making some cubes to hang up. Here are some of the nets.

Last week we learned about the Hawkes Bay earthquake, and we did role-plays and interviewed each other about our "earthquake experiences".
This week we are looking at the rebuilding of Napier after the earthquake, so we are learning about ART DECO.
Today we made comparisons between Art deco cars and clothes, and those of today.
Here are the first ideas from some groups below. What other differences can you think of?

DIGI AWARDS

Congratulations to our finalists and place-getters in the Digi awards which were held last night at the Hawkes Bay Opera House.
Hine was highly commended for her graphic design.
Alex, Michelle and Hine were awarded third place for the short film they made called "Rangi and Papatuanuku."
The audience was able to see the work on an enormous screen on the stage. It was a night full of Porritt Pride. Well done guys!

 Unfortunately the whole movie file of Rangi and Papa is too big to upload to the blog, but we will think of a way!  In the meantime, here are some shots from the film:

Brayden's Big Two Weeks

Tomorrow I'm going to America with Koru-Care.
Canteen people have raised heaps of money to help child cancer kids.
 A long time ago in July I got mail from Koru-Care. It said I have been accepted to go with them to Disney land. I was really excited.
One kid from Camp Quality that I know will be going to America with me.
I will stay in a fancy hotel, and when I have breakfast it will a big buffet.
I don't have to pay for anything. The companions will buy our lunch, and we are allowed to take $250 spending money to spend on what you want.
We will also go to Police Academy and Knoxbury farm while we are there. There are heaps of other surprises to be revealed.
